Open Know-How and An Open Source Hardware Registry As a Unifying Discoverability Mechanism for Open Source Hardware Humanitarian Engineering Projects
Slide deck from the Internet of Production Alliance July 2024 Community Call. The call focused on the research on developing a contracting system for distributed manufacturing, presented by Max Wardeh, Technical Coordinator at the Internet of Production.
The Open Makerspace Toolkit (OMT) provides Key stakeholders (makers, policymakers, funders…) of the maker movement with materials and resources for professional development, outreach, collections, and programs on how to set up, manage, equip and sustain different types of open, collaborative and innovative makerspaces.
The Open Catalogue of Business Models, developed by the MAKE project, contributes to the financial sustainability of makerspaces and support the creation of a decentralized production ecosystem.
This document describes the development of a mutual recognition standard in order to issue digital “Maker Passports” that show skills and experience levels of makers. By Sarah Hutton

This 1-page pdf flyer provides a brief overview of the People and Skills Specification, which provides a structure for verifying the skills and experiences needed to make something specific, by providing a shared taxonomy of skills and experiences and a framework for the recognition of this knowledge. The specification aids in the ability to locate the skills and expertise required to make a thing, and gives makers the ability to highlight their skills and experiences to potential employers, collaborators, and policy makers.
Makerspaces are viewed as useful labs in communities as they present users with the relevant tools and equipment that facilitate education, creativity and innovation. Unfortunately, tracking and measuring the impact of makerspaces in Africa has been a challenge and that can be partly attributed to the absence of clear impact indicators. In an attempt to contribute to solving the said challenge, this study presents 74 indicators that can be used by makerspaces in Africa to track and record their impact.
The report presents the research and development on portability of know-how for the use case of peer to peer sharing of designs & documentation, between July and November 2022. 2 app prototypes for file portability were developed, and user testing leads to 5 recommended next steps for further R&D. The work is funded by: NGI-DAPSI and the Sloan Foundation.
